Case

Liber, product development e-learning & web app

Liber - one of the largest publishers in the Nordic region - asked us to build a web app specially developed for an interactive whiteboard (IST). Liber wanted to be able to create digital experiments tied to different chapters in their teaching materials. The experiments are then carried out on an interactive whiteboard in the classroom under the pedagogical guidance of the teacher.

We started the project with a pre-study where we established a basic technical architecture, specified the integration with Liber's own systems and developed an interaction design suitable for an interactive whiteboard in a classroom. Based on the feasibility study, we then carried out the project in which we developed the graphic design and the technical solution. The product became a powerful tool for educational materials, used by teachers as a pedagogical aid in teaching.

Solution

Liber wanted help developing a tool for building interactive exercises, so-called "lab exercises". The tool would primarily be used on IST (Interactive whiteboard) but should also work on a regular computer or tablet

Liber wanted to be able to create and configure the lab exercises themselves without having to write their own code. The solution is therefore built with a modular architecture in AngularJS. Each lab exercise consists of any number of lab objects. To each lab object Liber can attach resources in the form of images, texts, videos and audio taken from the teaching materials. The lab objects are then assembled into a lab exercise

Liber can also control how the lab objects should interact with each other and what should happen. The user can click, drag and drop objects on the screen and, depending on what they do, different things occur. For example, if an object is dropped onto another object a certain sound can play if it’s the correct object, and a different one if it’s the wrong object You also have access to a toolbox through which you can move objects around, enter text, draw with a pen, draw straight lines or erase. The solution is integrated with Liber’s own systems for user accounts, CMS functionality and statistics collection. The idea is that children can come up to the interactive whiteboard and help each other with tasks to create fun and pedagogical lessons. The lab exercises have no corrective element; it is the teacher who entirely controls how the "exercise" takes shape

Liber, interactive whiteboard, Limetta

The student can choose tools from the menu and, for example, with the help of a pen draw freely on the lab area.

Liber, object parking, Limetta

Through the object parking the user can access other objects that are not visible on the lab workspace.

Liber, edit mode, Limetta

In edit mode, the editor who creates the exercises can format the objects.
